Episode 48 - Climate Health with Prof Tarun Weeramanthri

Welcome back to another great episode where we continue our conversation with former NT and WA Chief Health Officer Prof Tarun Weeramanthri. Tarun was our guest in episode 37, however we were so interested in talking about his career in medicine and public health that we ran out of time to discuss what we originally invited him onto the podcast to talk about which was the Climate Health WA inquiry, and the report which followed. Tarun shares his experience leading the inquiry, as well as his thoughts on the urgency with which we all need to act to address the impacts of climate change, suggesting that we are likely to see global warming occur at a much faster rate than previously thought without meaningful action now. Citing our global response to COVID19 and the speed at which vaccines have been developed, Tarun suggests that globally we have the capacity to act to address climate change before it is too late, but that the clock is ticking and we need to start the race now.
